4 Ways to Practice Mommy and Me Self-care

Self care is one of the most important aspects of life that allow you to figure out what you need in order to be the best versions of yourself.

Paying attention to better your mind, body, and soul are healthy and effective ways to help you navigate through life. It also allows you to deal with stress or unforeseen circumstances that may come along the way. It’s never too early to start practicing healthy habits in order for children to learn about self care as well.

Here are 4 ways to help you maintain self care with your mini’s:

  1. Spa Day. Even though my children are young, we have so much fun together during our spa day time. We engage in conversations about how it feels good to take care of your body and what you should do to maintain it. We practice how to wash and massage our face, moisturize our skin with my favorite coconut oil, and manicures/pedicures. I also add hair care by practice how to properly wash and style their hair. It’s important for my girls to embrace their natural hair and appreciate the beauty of their curls as well.

  1. Healthy Eating and Cooking. Adults and children require lots of nutrients to help our bodies develop. Everything from basic brain function to behavioral patterns can be influenced by the diet we choose to intake. One way to make meals fun is to make creative shapes using fruits, veggies, and even sandwiches. I also ask for the girls to help me decorate them for fun and easy snacks. Baking is one of our favorite ways to incorporate cooking as well. I also purchased children’s chef set including apron and mitts to make them mini cooks.
  1. Exercising. Jumping on the bed, having pillow fights, and dancing actually count as a physical activity! haha But seriously, studies have shown that staying active can increase productivity, mental focus, and reduce stress. We also enjoy outdoors almost daily by riding the bike or going for a run in the neighborhood.
  1. Reading. One of my absolute favorite self care methods. It allows you to unplug from the world and dive into your imagination, creativity, or even learn something new along the way. I actually started reading to my children while they were in my womb. The girls love various types of children’s books and we make it a point to read together daily. I also have various magazines around the house that represent diverse women from all types of cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, body types, and age. It’s so important to develop a love and appreciation for humanity, regardless of physical appearance.

What are some of your favorite activities to do with your little ones? Definitely share below! I had to include more photos from this shoot! Can you tell how much fun the girls had! I can’t wait until we can do it again next weekend!

As always sending love light and positive vibes your way!
